About the EU-CONEXUS
Created in 2019, EU-CONEXUS European University brings together coastal universities from across Europe, uniting their expertise to address the challenges and opportunities of coastal regions. Focused on Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability, the strategic alliance of nine partner universities promotes sustainable development in coastal areas through education, research, innovation and services to society. The partner universities are located in France, Greece, Spain, Lithuania, Croatia, Romania, Ireland, Germany, and Cyprus. They work together to create a future where coastal communities can thrive by, from, and with the sea.
EU-CONEXUS offers students, academics, and staff a wealth of opportunities, including specialisation study programmes, a joint degree programme in Marine Biotechnology, international mobility, and support for collaboration on common interdisciplinary research challenges. The joint research projects aim to develop innovative solutions for challenges such as coastal erosion, waste management, renewable energy, disaster mitigation, and sustainable tourism, ensuring that the wellbeing of coastal areas is maximized while their ecosystems are protected. Ports and regional or municipal authorities are associated partners in the alliance. Outreach to communities and in particular the younger generation is sought through engaging with schools by organising an annual school contest. Pupils are encouraged to propose innovative ideas for urban coastal sustainability.
The European University for Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability promotes collaboration and engagement in sustainability in urban coastal areas.
